KATY + STEPHEN | GRAND RAPIDS BISSELL TREE HOUSE WEDDING

Going back through Katy + Stephen's wedding day to pick which photos to blog made for the best afternoon. These are two of the kindest, most genuine people I've met, and that extends to their whole group of loved ones. They are full of joy and love and can't help but show it. Every part of the day was perfection, but some of my favorite moments were: their first look when they found out they each had picked out cards from Woosah for each other - Katy's super flowy gorgeous dress and veil - the fabulous field of wildflowers we found at Millenium Park - a gif-worthy, super energetic cake cutting - every single moment Katy + Stephen looked at each other with all the love in their hearts.

EMILY + JESSE | BENTON HARBOR BLUE DRESS BARN WEDDING

This was one of my favorite weddings I've ever photographed - every moment and detail was so incredibly personal and intentional. I've never been around a more joy-filled, enthusiastic group of friends and family. It thunder-stormed literally all but five minutes of the wedding day, and instead of being disappointed that they didn't get the sunny outdoor wedding they were hoping for, Emily + Jesse had the most positive attitudes. Everyone laughed uproariously and cried unabashedly (including me) for the entirety of the day.

Some of the best parts of the day:

Jesse crying every time he looked at Emily
all the Sufjan Stevens-inspired decor and music
the ceremony officiated by one of Jesse + Emily's best friends which was basically a super heartfelt and hilarious stand-up comedy routine.
an entire bridal party full of actors and comedians. Best personalities around.
Jesse + Emily's choreographed first dance
light-up flower crowns for all the guests to wear
the dance floor energy, especially when "Jesse's Girl" came on

BEST OF 2018 | WEDDINGS

2018 was a blast of a year in weddings. I got to celebrate with so many incredible couples, participate in energetic dance floor parties to my heart's content, and witness a lot of beautiful love stories unfold. Thanks to everyone who invited me into your emotional moments with warmth, trusted my creativity, and shared your wedding cake with me.

LIA + JEFF | BIRMINGHAM WEDDING, TOWNSEND HOTEL + ST. JOHN’S ARMENIAN CHURCH

I can't help but grin when I look through the photos from Lia and Jeff's wedding day. From start to finish, the day was filled with laughter and overwhelming amounts of love. One of my favorite things is observing not just the love of the bride and groom, but also all the people they surround themselves with on their wedding day - and let me tell you, Lia and Jeff have a serious squad of awesome supporters when it comes to family and friends. They welcomed us into their day by offering all the food and coffee they had, and continued the day with the same generosity and warmth. It's such a good day when I don't want to leave at the end because I'm having too much fun. This crew knows real well how to love, laugh, and DANCE! My kind of people right here.

Also, shooting at St John's Armenian Church and the Townsend Hotel was a DREAM. More weddings there, please. The church is strikingly beautiful (hello stained glass and domed ceiling), and the Townsend is class and glam, located right in downtown Birmingham. Enjoy these snaps of lovely details and even lovelier moments, and thanks a million to Lia and Jeff for their kindness and infectious exuberance.

Shout-out to Leighanne Sturgis for being the best second-shooter around.

ZACK + DEVON | ST JOHN’S, MICHIGAN WEDDING

The way Zack and Devon love each other is pure joy to witness: they love with kindness, passion, and true appreciation for what makes the other unique. Spending the day with the two of them and their warm, hilarious family and friends was a blast and a half. Also, they had PIZZA at their reception! This day abounded with silliness, tears, tenderness, and a whole lotta fun. Zack and Devon, thanks so much for being a super rad couple, and for making my job way too easy.

SILVER LAKE SAND DUNES ELOPEMENT

This was such a truly beautiful day. Simple and meaningful, two people who adore each other saying their vows in front of only the officiant, two dear family members, the lake, and me.

Thanks to Silver Lake Sand Dunes for providing the perfect backdrop for their elopement, to the clouds for holding off the rain that was supposed to drench us all evening, and to this sweet couple for demonstrating so well how to love purely and passionately.

KATIE + LUKE | GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN WEDDING

Katie and Luke's wedding day was filled with so much joy, and I loved being there to capture it! They got married on a lovely April day at Sherman Street Church, and celebrated with all their dear family and friends at the beautiful Frederik Meijer Gardens. There were so many special moments throughout the day - Katie and Luke performing a song together during their ceremony, a gorgeous cake, and - my personal favorite - group folk dancing at the reception! Melissa + Marco | Cedar Springs Wedding

Melissa and Marco's wedding day features loads of sun, a pup in a bowtie, New Holland beer, the most delicious soft pretzels, and some of the kindest people I've ever met.

They spent their wedding day on their beautiful land in Cedar Springs, surrounded by their loved ones, who had come from near and far (Marco's family took a boat all the way from Germany to be there on the wedding day!) to celebrate with them.

Best of 2017 | weddings

This past year has been my favorite so far in my photography career. I photographed more weddings than I have any year prior, and felt more freedom to create with purpose and passion than I have before. 2017's weddings brought me all over the Mitten: Ann Arbor, Holland, Grand Haven, Detroit, Dearborn, Mackinac Island (definitely a favorite), and of course all around my home base of my favorite city, Grand Rapids.

Thanks to all the wonderful couples who let me experience and document their love stories, and thanks to all the delightful creative people I had the opportunity to collaborate with this year. You've believed in me, challenged me, and inspired me, and I'm so very grateful.
